Round Britain Intensive Sailing Programme

We have pleasure in introducing you to the Round Britain Intensive Sailing Programme and enclosing a typical Itinery

The programme is an innovative method of gaining sufficient experience and qualifications to enable a student to progress from the very basics to Yachtmaster Offshore with Commercial Endorsement. This qualification entitles the successful candidate to professional employment in the yachting industry.

The course is 13 weeks in duration during which students circumnavigate the United Kingdom either round the North of Scotland or through the Caledonian Canal depending on weather conditions. In addition on their way round they are likely to visit ports in Ireland and Europe.

The programme is specifically designed to introduce participants to as many aspects as possible of boat preparation, boat maintenance and sometimes repairs, boat handling passage making and pilotage under realistic sailing conditions. They will learn to take into account safety, navigation, meteorology, tidal factors and handling emergencies, thereby standing them in good stead for the future whether as a professional or a very competent amateur sailing with family and friends.

The program starts from our base, here in the Solent, where the first weekend is taken up with a First Aid course followed by an SRC operator's course. Then it is off on the yacht, with short periods in the classroom under the watchful eye of our RYA Instructors, returning to the base at the end of the circumnavigation ready to take the Yachtmaster Offshore examination.

The following certificates and courses will be covered as the vessel progresses around Britain's coast and students gain in knowledge and stature:
Competent Crew
Day Skipper Theory
Day Skipper Practical
Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory
Coastal Skipper Practical
Yachtmaster Offshore preparation
RYA First Aid SRC (GMDSS)
Diesel Engine Maintenance
Sea Survival Medical Examination
Yachtmaster Offshore Examination (This is not covered by the course fee as it is payable directly to the RYA examiner)

These are more than the requirements necessary to enable a student to obtain the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate with Commercial Endorsement. However we do recommend that students have some previous sailing experience in order to establish their suitability for the course and to gain additional mileage. Although sailing around Britain is an enjoyable experience it must be realised that it is an intensive course requiring dedicated study and application.

The cost of this course is £7200.00 and covers all mooring fees and food on board.

The Itinery for the March 2003 course is shown below and we shall be pleased to discuss your requirements with you.

We also welcome students who wish to do approximately three week legs to increase their experience and qualifications.
